JAKARTA, Feb 28: The Esemka Rajawali (pic) assembled by vocational senior high school (SMK) students in Surakarta, Central Java, has passed 10 tests and is waiting for the result of the 11th and the final test: the emission check.

The emission test was carried out on Monday in Serpong, Tangerang. The result of the test was available only several minutes after the test, but cannot yet be widely published.

“The result has to be analyzed by the Transportation Ministry first,” the Land Transportation Directorate General’s emission test researcher Juliaman said as quoted by tempo.co on Tuesday.

Vice mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo was upbeat that Esemka could pass the test as he drove it at the maximum speed of 120 kmph in Semarang toll road.

“It will be outrageous if it does not pass the test,” he said.

The vehicle has already passed ten tests, including those on its brakes, headlights, turning radius, horn, side slop, weight, speedometer, dimension, construction and rates of monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC).

If it passes its final check, it will be then be able to be produced on a mass scale.

The Esemka, which has been used as the official vehicle for Surakarta Mayor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo left the Solo Techno Park on Saturday.

The SUV was designed to be fuel-efficient. On the trip, the vehicle consumed only around 60 liters of high-octane Pertamax, or about one liter of fuel for every 12 kilometers.

Esemka has produced three models besides the Rajawali SUV: the double cabin Digdaya mini truck; the Zhangaro pick-up truck and the Esemka hatchback sedan. For the time being, however, Esemka only plans to mass produce the SUV, which would also come in a CNG version to adhere to the national policy on fuel savings.

According to Jokowi, Esemka would be able to produce 200 cars per month with prices starting from Rp 95 million (US$10,508) each.
